Thank you for doing your part to keep the Royal Canadian Legion active in our communities…

Coquitlam Legion Executive,
Royal Canadian Legion,
Branch 263

Dear Comrades,

At the 2019 BC/Yukon Command Convention the following resolution was passed:

WHEREAS Legions are current allowed to retain a small amount of money for administrative purposes from gaming events;
WHEREAS The criminal code allows for only religious groups and charities to keep gaming money;
WHEREAS Legislation allowed for creation of casinos that are neither a charity or religious;
WHEREAS That legislation allows casinos to keep money then a change in legislation can allow service clubs (Legions) to retain a greater share of gaming money
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED That all Legion branches encourage members to lobby MLA’s to enact legislation to allow service clubs (Legions) to retain a larger share of gaming money and to rally other service clubs to do the same.

With the financial strain due to the Covid-19 pandemic branches need this relief more than ever.  Attached you will find a letter that we ask that you share with your members and encourage them to fill in and send to their local MLA’s to seek support for this initiative.  We also ask that you reach out to other service clubs in your area to encourage them to do the same.

I would like to thank Bob Chapman, President of Branch #263 Coquitlam for all his hard work and help in putting the letter together.
Veronica Brown
